Father's Love Letter Is Demonic

Introduction

Barry Adams, a Mennonite Brethren, has made up and popularized a make-believe letter to lost humanity that is supposedly from God the Father. Though Barry admits he himself "compiled a series of paraphrased scriptures," he claims this love letter is "the love letter that God penned to the world" (www.fathersloveletter.com/thestory.html, hard copy on file). That's a very bold claim coming from a man who admits he put it together himself. He justifies this by stating he got the idea from "a still small voice."

While in prayer one day, he heard God say to his heart... "If you put these verses in the right order, they will form a love letter from me to the world". (www.fathersloveletter.com/Fatherheart/adamsbio.html)

As should become evident, if Barry heard from anyone, it was a demon, not God.

Barry describes the beginning of his "quest" that eventually produced this love letter with these words:

In October 1997, I responded to a call for pastors to come forward and receive prayer at a conference that I was attending. The young man who prayed for me simply said... "I see a picture - You are a little baby and God is your Father and right now He is re-attaching your umbillical cord to Himself." (www.fathersloveletter.com/thestory.html)

This letter, which is examined below and given in full at the end, has become quite popular.

By November 1999, Barry created a new website (www.FathersLoveLetter.com) to facilitate the free viewing of the Father's Love Letter video in a Flash video format. By January 2000, there were so many people viewing the video simultaneously that it almost shut their Internet service provider down. By January 2001, the number of online video previews had increased to nearly one million downloads a month.

Since its inception, Father's Love Letter has been viewed by millions of people from over 125 nations on the Internet and has been translated into 60+ languages. It has been translated into tribal languages and shared by missionaries in the jungles of the Amazon, Thailand and Papua New Guinea. It has been broadcast on television and radio throughout North America, England, Romania, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East. It has also been distributed in the underground church in China and the [sic] throughout the Middle East.

People from around the world have sponsored full page newspaper ads featuring the Father's Love Letter, purchased billboards and bus shelters, and even mailed this letter to every home in their city. Father's Love Letter has been produced as a gospel tract by the American Tract Society and the Canadian Bible Society and the video version was included on Worldwide Pictures' 2002 movie release 'The Climb'.

As Barry & Ann Adams enter their 8th year of 'delivering this letter', their mandate continues to be to see Father's Love Letter delivered to every home in every nation throughout the world. What seemed like an impossible dream a few years ago, is slowly becoming a reality. At Christmas 2005, every home in Finland (2.5 million households) will receive the Finnish Father's Love letter and in February 2006, every home in the Central American country of Belize will receive the Spanish and English versions through the ministry of Every Home For Christ. To substantiate that Barry's "love letter" is indeed demonic, please see the following:

I. A False God = a Demon.

As will be Biblically proven below, the god described in this "love letter" is not the God of the Bible, but rather a false God. That being the case, it is idolatry. Idolatry is the worship of a false God, and the Bible reveals this is demonic, as Moses wrote of the Israelites of old,

They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. (Deuteronomy 32:16-17; see also Leviticus 17:7; 2 Chronicles 11:15; Psalm 106:37)

Likewise, Paul wrote to the Corinthians,

What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. (1 Corinthians 10:19-20; see also Revelation 9:20)

This is what Barry Adams does via his love letter. He fellowships with and worships and promotes a demon, and this demon purports itself to be,

II. Not An Angry God.

In this "love letter," Barry writes as if God the Father is talking, and he says,

I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love. 1 John 4:16 (bold added)

God is indeed love (1 John 4:16), and even though He is "not far from each one of us" (Acts 17:27), He is nonetheless far from the wicked ("distant," Proverbs 15:29). But to say He is not angry is directly the opposite of what the true Father says.

God is a just judge, and God is with the wicked angry every day. (Psalm 7:11)

God is angry. He is angry every day. Actually, "with the wicked" (NKJV) is not in the Hebrew. Psalm 7:11 literally says in the Hebrew, "God is angry every day" אֵ֗ל זֹעֵ֥ם בְּכָל־יֽוֹם ('êl zo`êm bekhol-yom). That's not Barry's god.

This "Father" of this "love letter" says he is not angry. On this alone, we can know this "love letter" is not from "the Father of lights" (James 1:17).

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18; see also Psalm 2:12; 76:7-10; 80:4; 90:11; Mark 3:5; Hebrews 3:17).

The true God had Isaiah write,

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned - in these ways we continue; and we need to be saved. (Isaiah 64:4-5)

That describes the true Father, who reveals His wrath (anger) every day by killing people and casting them to hell. It's why (at least in part) He causes "the dawn to know its place" (Job 38:12-13).

Furthermore, the true God is angry even with believers, as Moses (a believer) wrote,

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night. You carry them away like a flood; they are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up: in the morning it flourishes and grows up; in the evening it is cut down and withers. For we have been consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are terrified. You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:1-12; see also Psalm 6:1; 38:3; 88; Ecclesiastes 5:6).

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). We all sin, and we all die. Why? Because the Almighty Holy God kills us (Deuteronomy 32:39), because He is angry with us (Psalm 90:9). That's the real God!

But Barry's god is not only not angry, he is,

III. Close To The Wicked.

Barry's "love letter" is to the lost, the wicked, those who do not know Christ. This is evident by how the letter begins:

You may not know me, but I know everything about you. Psalm 139:1 (bold added)

People who do not know God are people who are evil (Galatians 4:8; 1 Thessalonians 4:5; 2 Thessalonians 1:8). Thus, this letter is addressing people who do not know God, who are lost, who do not know Christ.

Likewise, the end of the letter reveals he is talking to the lost.

My question is . . . Will you be my child? John 1:12-13

I am waiting for you. Luke 15:11-32

With the use of John 1:12 ("receive Him" & "become children of God") and the idea this "Father" is "waiting for you," clearly it addresses the unsaved.

Yet, to these unsaved sinners he says,

When you are brokenhearted, I am close to you. Psalm 34:18
As a shepherd carries a lamb, I have carried you close to my heart. Isaiah 40:11 (bold added)

This describes a god that is "close" to the wicked. That's not the God of the Bible, as it is written,

The Lord is far from the wicked (Proverbs 15:29).

Although God in a sense is "not far from each one of us" (Acts 17:27), He is nonetheless "far from the wicked." Barry perverts Psalm 34:18 and Isaiah 40:11 and makes God close to the wicked in the same sense he is close to the godly, which is a lie. Isaiah 40:11 is speaking of the future when the Lord comes back (see Isaiah 40:9-11), and Psalm 34:18 speaks of those who are saved (i.e. righteous, see Psalm 34:15-22). God is not "close" to the ungodly as in Psalm 34:18. He is far from them (Proverbs 15:29). They are His enemies (Psalm 139:20; Nahum 1:2; Romans 5:10).

Also, Barry's god is,

IV. Not Against The Wicked.

Speaking of Christ, Barry's demon says,

He came to demonstrate that I am for you, not against you. Romans 8:31 (bold added)

Again, since he is talking to the unsaved, this is a lie, as it is written,

The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. (Psalm 34:16; see also 1 Peter 3:12)

The verse Barry gives, Romans 8:31, is only applicable to the saved, but he applies it to the unsaved, as he flatters them into idolatry (Proverbs 26:28; Romans 16:18; 1 Thessalonians 2:5; Jude 16).

Furthermore, Barry's god is,

V. Not Counting Their Sins

Barry writes,

And to tell you that I am not counting your sins. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (bold added)

The verse he sites for this is in the past tense. 2 Corinthians 5:19 says,

God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them.

This is talking about when Christ was on the earth not counting the people's sins. He came not to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him (John 3:17). It is not talking about Christ presently not counting people's sins. Barry misuses this verse.

Romans 1:18 (quoted above) and Job 38:12-13 reveal God is daily counting the sins of the wicked against them as He kills them, daily, and casts them to hell (as in Luke 16:19-31; see also Luke 12:4-5; Romans 2:3-10).

Moreover, Barry's demon,

VI. Rejoices Over The Wicked

Barry writes,

And I rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

Here again, Barry misuses the word of God. Zephaniah 3:17 says,

The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

This is speaking of whom He "will save" yet in the future. It is not even talking about who or what He rejoices over right now.

Those who don't know Christ are an abomination to God (Deuteronomy 25:16; Proverbs 3:32; 11:20; 16:5), and even though He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11), nonetheless, the rejoicing He does over them is one of destruction and damnation (Deuteronomy 28:63; Psalm 58:6-11/Galatians 2:20; Luke 10:21; Revelation 12:7-12; 18:20). That's why He is to be feared (Luke 12:4-5; Psalm 130:3-4).

Barry's god flatters further by claiming he will,

VII. Never Stop Doing Good

Barry writes,

I will never stop doing good to you. Jeremiah 32:40

Jeremiah 32:40 is a specific promise to people of Jerusalem whom the Lord says He will put His fear in their hearts. It is not a promise to just anybody and everybody, as Barry makes it out to be.

God will never stop doing good to those who are good (Psalm 84:11; 125:4; Micah 2:7; Romans 8:28-39). Yet, He does not promise never ending good for the ungodly. On the contrary, He warns He will not do them good, as He warned those in Jerusalem in Jeremiah 15:6-7:

"You have forsaken Me," says the Lord, "You have gone backward. Therefore I will stretch out My hand against you and destroy you; I am weary of relenting! And I will winnow them with a winnowing fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children; I will destroy My people, since they do not return from their ways." (see also Luke 13:1-5)

Barry's god also claims,

VIII. "I Gave Up Everything"

Barry writes,

I gave up everything I loved that I might gain your love. Romans 8:31-32

Romans 8:31-32 does not teach that. The Father indeed gave up His Son, as Romans 8:32 says, but that is not everything He loved. Otherwise, the angels are unloved by Him. He didn't give them up (Hebrews 1:5-14).

Barry's false God promises to,

IX. Wipe Every Tear & Take Away All The Pain

Barry writes,

One day I will wipe away every tear from your eyes. Revelation 21:3-4
And I'll take away all the pain you have suffered on this earth. Revelation 21:3-4

This is absolute absurdity! This demon makes this promise, but then ends the letter with,

My question is . . . Will you be my child?

What if they say, "No"? He's still going to wipe every tear away and take all the pain away? If not, he lied (which, of course, is par for the coarse for a demon).

The real God keeps His word, and if people don't repent, He will add to their tears (Matthew 25:30) and greatly increase their pain (Isaiah 66:24).

Barry's god,

X. Lies To The Majority

Barry writes,

I chose you when I planned creation. Ephesians 1:11-12

Ephesians 1:11-12 only applies to those who are "In Him" (as verse 11 begins), that is, in Christ. Since Matthew 7:13-14 is true, and Christ is not a liar, Ephesians 1:11-12 only applies to the minority of mankind. The majority of mankind God purposely chose not to be "In Him," but to be alienated from the life of God (Ephesians 4:18) forever in hell (Proverbs 16:4; Romans 9:11-22). Thus, Barry's god lies, at the very least, to the majority of mankind, but, actually, it is a lie to everyone; because this god didn't plan creation nor choose anyone.

Finally, Barry's demon promotes,

XI. A False Jesus

Barry writes,

If you receive the gift of my son Jesus, you receive me. 1 John 2:23
And nothing will ever separate you from my love again. Romans 8:38-39

Since this is not actually the true Father speaking, then this is an idle promise and the words of an impostor. This "Jesus" anyone might receive would therefore then not be the Jesus of the true Father, but rather the "Jesus" of this false Father. Therefore, the gift that is promised is empty words (2 Peter 2:18) and all that might be received is a false assurance that leads to nowhere but eternal torment (Revelation 21:8; 22:15).

Furthermore, when one understands that this letter is from a demon, it should give some insight to the working of the devil (2 Corinthians 2:11; 11:14-15). Here we have a demon wanting people to "receive the gift of my son Jesus." It should be obvious, anyone who receives this "son" receives trouble (Psalm 7:14).

XII. The False Love Letter

Here is Barry Adams' "Father's Love Letter" in its entirety:

The words you are about to experience are true. They will change your life if you let them. For they come from the heart of God. He loves you. And He is the Father you have been looking for all your life. This is His love letter to you.

Although he begins with, "The words you are about to experience are true," none of it is true, because of the context in which it is written. It is not from God, but from the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2).

Finally, it is evident from the introductory words, "He is the Father you have been looking for all your life," that Barry is caught in the common false gospel that teaches wicked men seek and want God, which is contrary to the gospel of Christ (Psalm 10:3-4; Romans 1:28; 3:11). So, not only is Barry's God false, but so is his gospel. Barry may think he is doing much good with this letter (2 Timothy 3:13), but he is actually doing much harm (2 Peter 2:1, 17). May the Lord repay him according to his deeds (Galatians 1:8-9; 1 Corinthians 16:22).
